It appears the table is on fire.
It also appears that nobody cares.

Geary: That means you get a companion for four levels, then it gets an upgrade.
Draykin: A very PAINFUL upgrade.

Okay, since Geary kindly pointed out that the table was on fire, I thought I remembered Lucian saying all the trees (and therefore wood) in the forest were warded against fire. After looking back at the page he said it, I see that he also said "It'd take a fire elemental to make more than a dent."

So Pryo setting parts of the table on fire does make sense. Nice one, Vir. Clever. ];)

(And on a random note, that is also the first page we see Lucile. I like how this works out. ]:P)

Okay, did we just forget that Lucian just caused an explosion that very well may have caused his and Julian's death? And what exactly is Julian hoping to accomplish is he a good guy or not!? Now we're suddenly going to a chess game with a demon? SOMEONE EXPLAIN SOMETHING! JUST EXPLAAAAAAAAAIN!!!

MY guess is his life is flashing before his eyes, or that this flashback has some relevance as to why he doesn't die in the next few strips.
