Looks like someone is/has been messing with the Doctor's head. Possibly interference by an active psychic, or he's been conditioned to have a mental block on that information. Judging by his earlier babbling, it's probably conditioning, although whether it is psychically induced or conditioning via torture cannot be determined with the current information. Either that, or he just got stabbed.
