hmmm.. Toast kinda made me think of doing this, give credit to him for me actually .. writing... kinda ?
Been trying to write Tales of a Fox for a long long time now. 90% of the content in the story comes in dreams, whether they be daydreams or sleeping ones. Anyway, every time I sit down to write it on paper or type it on a computer I never can feel the words giving justice to the way I see it. Also the dreams all happen at different time periods and places within the story... like a video set on randomize with the scene selection. So putting it on paper is hard. Anyway, I've decided to release it in a different way... through story telling I suppose, going to try it and see how it works.

The first part of Tales of a Fox came from a nightmare rather. I pictured a young girl with silver hair running from these shadow like beings.... later I named these beings wraiths.. but that is much much later, for now they were just ominous things that wanted her ... dead I suppose.. Anyway the girl ran and hid much as she could trying her best to escape. She was almost cornered sprinting across and open field towards a house with no windows or doors. It was there in my dream she plunged into the wall and went through it. Not through as in crashing through the solid wall, but through as in passing through it like it never existed to her. Within the house she fumbled around in the dark hearing the screeching and hissing of the things that were chasing her outside clawing and scratching at the wall before finally silence. Now in my dream I was seeing what the girl was seeing at this point. Pitch blackness... like staring into a cave at midnight with no moon. It was like I was watching what she was, but had no control. She fumbled in the dark a bit and finally found a table and chair. I listened as I heard several clicks and then brightness from an oil lamp on the center of the table. Across the table in the eerie lamp light stood a young ... thing. It looked like a little boy, but it had a khaki colored hooded cloak and you couldn't see its face. At this point I was filled with a bit of a chill and my heart was racing, because in my mind I knew this couldn't be something that would end well. The girl said hello to the boy but no response came. She went to reach across the table to try and touch the boy. As she moved though he seemed to move through the table and reached his hand through her clothing... her skin and into her very being. I felt cold inside like I was being drained of life like she probably was. The "thing" clutching her "soul" or "essence" still had most of its face shrouded but this sinister smile, imagine a jack-o-lantern or clown or whatever your darkest fear is just smiling at you ... with a look of pure hate, disgust, anger, and lust all at once in a joyful smile. That is what I was picturing. You could describe it as pure darkness I guess. I could hear the girl coughing and gagging and then the entire thing dimmed and I woke up in a start... didn't sleep much the rest of that night.

As any of you have read the Prologue, this was the first dream. The very first... before Niro even. This was from when I was ... 13-14 maybe I think. Like I said I've been working on Tales of a Fox for a long time. Anyway, I later added the name Tessa to the girl I saw, Tess for short. She makes another appearance much much later, but for now it was just a normal nightmare that woke me. The Wraiths... weren't named Wraiths for a long time either, instead I just called them "Dark Ones" ... but again they didn't even have that name til a few dreams later. For some reason the young boy I knew exactly his name from this dream. He never made a sound as he killed that poor girl other than an evil laugh at one point or another in the chaos, and I called him The Silent One. He haunted my dreams a few more times to come and has a real name but I'll get to that later.

For now I'll stop this long rant or story telling, just a bit of background on how it came to be and such. I'll give the next story in sequence probably tomorrow. I did thoroughly enjoy telling it this way rather than worrying about grammar or adverbs/adjectives to describe the whole mess. Just kinda let it come out the way it was pictured. Hope you enjoyed.

Time for the next installment of the story... Like I said I don't dream them in order so this one had a lot of development in my head by far from the last one.

We enter our story this time with Niro Sikari, the main protagonist in this tale. He looks almost completely human ... except for his tail and ears, which appear as that of a foxes. At first he appears to be in his mid to early twenties with silver hair and red tipped ears. However, he is in fact much older. Probably in his late sixties, but Fade don't age like normal people. No, The Fade aren't like others at all. They are a race composed of many races and species, or were at least. Over the years the Fade have withered and died from what they once were, a proud race of thousands maybe even tens of thousands down to a mere handful of maybe hundreds spread across vast distances. Niro belongs to a small concentration of this race though, where several Fade have gathered to try to prolong their existence in this world together rather than fight apart. They reside in a town called Ansken Rail. It was probably once a kingdom, but was abandoned long ago and repopulated by the Fade. The town itself is very large but only the center of it is filled with residence, its ourskirts remain dead and deserted. The entire town is surrounded by high black walls with two gates, one to the north facing a large dense forest and one to the west facing a desolate plain with a river off in the distance. The West wall is bordered not by a wall but the wall merges with a large black stone faced cliff that rises high above the city and the south wall is just a complete solid wall with no entrances or exits. This city was repopulated by mostly humans and only two or three of the Fade when it was reborn. However over time those few helped stabilize the government and economy of the town and were regarded as its Guardians and protectors. As years passed more and more Fade wandered in and stayed or were born into the town's population. For a while all was fine, the Wraiths rarely appeared and those that did were quickly dealt with. But in these days the Fade are few and the Wraiths just grow larger by the number each passing week. Ansken Rail... once a home to many is a prison to them now, safe from the outside world, but also trapped from it as well. In the center of this prison rises a tower made from the same black stone as the walls and cliff that surround the city. This tower, has been renamed the Tower of the Faded. On the fifth floor of this tower sits Niro at a desk near the window, staring out at the dark grey sky to the west, possibly daydreaming of what life is like on the outside of these walls. His room of the tower is a small one, with silver walls and ceiling and a dark ashen wood flooring. In the corner is a bed he rarely uses by the only window is his desk at which he writes and works. Laying in the corner next to his desk is a large wooden pole painted bright green with iron tipped ends cast in silver. It is his main form of defense and offense against whatever he must subdue or kill, be it Wraith or other. He wears a black cloak with the symbol of his race on its backside in bright tan. Besides that he wears simple clothing.

A knock comes at his door breaking his trance like stare out the window. Niro briefly sighs and then tells whomever it is they may enter. In steps a tall thin figure. Long jet black hair tops his head, his skin a pale purple and his ears human but drastically pointed. Instead of hands, claws extrude from his dark sleeved robes. Surprised Niro quickly rises in attention to the elder of his race and bows. "Good evening Sir Xenaphon." he says with a steady voice. Xenaphon waves his left arm with a mild annoyed look on his face, "I've told all of you before, none of that 'Sir' and all this over respectful business. I'm the same as you are even if I am a few centuries older."
"I understand...." Niro sighed raising his head "why is it you've come to visit me today? I thought you left the city weeks ago to search for others."
"I did, and we found none. Only empty towns and plenty of Wraiths. That is actually why I am here." His expression became a bit more tired looking as he closed his eyes and continued, "Claire was badly injured in an attack and we had to rush back here to treat her. She may not make it through tomorrow even so. That means the North wall will be short two guards now, and I need you to go help keep watch tonight." Niro nodded.
"When should my shift start?"
"Within the hour, Renx has been there for almost two days without sleep and refuses to abandon his post. You are going to have to convince him to get some rest and head back the tower."
With that Xenaphon left from the room leaving for more important matters Niro guessed. Niro gathered up his weapons and his pole staff and followed down the long spiral steps. His destination the North Gate....

I'll stop here and pick up tomorrow. Got a bit descriptive this time ... hope you enjoy and don't sleep through it.

Was Lazy this end week, but now I'll continue a bit.

Niro quickly hurried away from the center of the city towards the north gate. As he hurried the buildings got more and more run down the closer he got to the wall. It had always been this way. On occasion there would be breaches of the wraiths and those further from the tower usually were the first to be attacked. Very few people lived near the walls now, only the Fade patrolled these outer areas for any wraith that may be hiding in the run down buildings. Niro finally reached the outer wall. Before him stood a gate that rose possibly twenty or thirty feet into the air, but it was no longer ever used. Instead it had been barricaded with several tons of debris and wood. Only the gate to the west was ever opened anymore, and it was only to let horses and caravans leave or in the rare case, enter. Niro entered the guard house to the left of the large doors and began to climb an old ladder carved out of the black stone the wall was composed of. When he emerged a few moments later he was above almost every building in the city. Only the grand spire at the center rose higher. He briefly gazed out upon the city before searching the wall for Renx. About a hundred paces away to his right stood a lone figure on the wall. He stood perfectly still gazing out upon the forest. His golden colored hair and pale skin were the only things that distinguished himself from being a statue. He was clad in dark black leather gear that almost completely matched the color of the wall. Upon his hip were two swords, whose sheaths matched the color of his clothing. Niro sighed and slowly walked along the top of the wall until he was only a few feet away. At this distance the boy appeared to be in his late teens, even though he was much older. His eyes bloodshot as he continued a blank stare out upon the forest.
"Hey. Orders from Xen. He said you need to go get some rest." Niro stated clearly.
Renx just stood there as if he were still alone. Niro began to get a bit irritated at this but kept his calm.
"Did you hear me? Xen said you need to get off this wall for a while, you've been up here far to long."
The boy still just stood staring out across the forest. Finally Niro's temper got the better of him and he approached closer. The moment he took two steps he felt a sword tip pressed into his chest lightly. With one hand Renx had drawn, readjusted, and placed it there without changing his stance, still staring off into the forest. Finally words escaped his lips, his voice cracked and dry from what Niro guessed dehydration. "I heard you the first time, and I don't have any intentions of leaving this spot until she comes back. If you try to force me I'll kill you like I would anything else that crosses me." he stated coldly. Niro shook his head and scowled. "Silva will be back safely within the day, there is no reason you should just pointlessly wait for her. She left with Rail, the two of them combined could take down an army of wraiths." Renx finally turned, his face filled with rage and eyes with hate. "I don't care who is with her! I should be the one with her at all times! If anything were to happen to her I'd kill every last one of you and those damn wraiths and you know that!" The tip of the blade pressed a bit deeper through the cloak and into Niro's hard leather chest plate causing him to back up a bit. "Look calm down a bit, she'll be fine is all I'm saying. You don't have to stand here and worry every time she goes out there. She is a Fade like us and can hold her own. So just chill out a bit and go get some rest." Renx finally broke his stance sheathing the smaller of the two swords, but then turned and faced out upon the forest again. "Do what you want, but I'm not leaving this spot until she emerges from those woods." he said in a cold and hateful tone. Niro sighed and turned pacing a few yards away. There he sat down atop one of the battlements letting his feet dangle over the edge. If Renx wanted to stand there until his body gave into exhaustion so be it. Niro wasn't going to stop him.

Probably add more this evening. Happy Halloween.

I remember the first part from bits you posted earlier, though it's cool to read it as it you remember it in your dream.  Looking forward to learning more about this stuff. [:)
