Curious moves. Clearly there's a long-term strategic value to covering your own symbols that is less obvious to the untrained mind.

If the players agree to start over, I won't stop you. However, due to every board having rotational symmetry, one could always pretend that you played on the right symbols in the first place by moving the pieces as shown. In an offline setting, each player would have a prominent marker reminding them who they are, and they'd probably never make this mistake. I hope.
