Game Room / Modded Hardmode Minecraft
« on: December 08, 2013, 07:50:01 AM »
I now have a working 24/7 (mostly...) modded Minecraft server. there's no whitelist so anyone who wants to join can do so immediately. all you have to do is set up the easy mod system, which i have included in a download along with easy to follow instructions. any issues you have with the mods or the server can be posted here, where i can fix them quickly

modpack download: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/98923268/CF%20Modpack.zip
server ip: 74.83.253.172

IMPORTANT NOTE:
as mods are added to the server i will update the dropbox download link with new files. If the server tells you it cannot connect you due to missing or old mods, come back here and download the file again, then follow the update procedures below:

to update: once you have downloaded CF Modpack.zip again, open it up and find the Modpack folder. the one that tells you to put it on your desktop. although you already have this folder on your desktop from the previous version, you are going to need to drag the new one to your desktop. once it is there, make sure you remember the name of your old step 3 folder (the one that was there before you started upgrading) and then delete it. rename the new step 3 folder to match the name of the old one. you have just updated, delete everything else from that download and it should work immediately upon opening minecraft. Warning: this will delete all of your saved worlds in the modpack. if you want to keep them, remove them from the saves folder before deleting!

List of Mods:

Tinker's Construct: build and upgrade personalized supertools

Damage Indicators: HUD item that gives you the health of your enemies

Art Gallery / Where I have vanished to for the last 2 weeks
« on: November 14, 2013, 08:48:37 AM »
you're probably wondering where i have been for the last 2 weeks and also where the halloween group picture is. and i have some bad news...

no amount of sadface emoticons can convey how i feel about this. My 4 year old Wacom tablet has died.

Rest In Peace, Tablet

this is terrible news because i have no way to finish any of my half-completed pictures, including the Halloween one.

I noticed that the pen input was getting a bit jerky recently, but i had no idea the whole digitizer would break, so the wednesday before halloween the thing just stopped taking pen input. so now i'm down one $400 tablet that i can't afford to replace.

you guys may not see much art from me for a while as i try and save up enough money for a new one. i may try and upload some pencil sketches but i have no scanner and i'm worthless with any sort of real media besides pencils so i can't do any requests or commissions for a bit. i have a little less than half the price of the tablet covered already but this could take me a few more months so I may end up just waiting until christmas. either way i'm really sorry i can't finish the halloween piece or any other art for people right now.

just figured i'd let everyone know...

In other news:

i will probably start doing more of my pixel art since i can do it with a mouse instead of my tablet. if I need to, i may open up pixel art commissions to pay for the replacement.

Art Gallery / Halloween group pic signups (CLOSED)
« on: October 05, 2013, 01:36:08 PM »
Welp... the whole voting process is starting to look pretty much unnecessary.

With every other idea receiving only one vote each, the theme for the Halloween group pic iiiiiiis.....

Monster Mash!

Everyone is ready and dressed up for the big Halloween party, but it doesn't look like you'll need those costumes much longer. You're all turning into Halloween-themed monsters!

now we have to deal with more important matters. getting you all in the picture. For that i will need everyone to submit something here before October 20th

Your submission should look something like this:

Your Character's Name:
I want to be able to give credit to everyone who was in the picture

Reference links:
important point: If You Do Not Have Reference Material I Cannot Draw You!
I really hope this isn't too much of a problem for most of you, but i need to make sure everyone knows
that I can't draw without some form of reference (I'm still developing my mind reading powers)

if I have drawn you repeatedly in the past i don't need a ref from you

What monster you want to be tf-ing into:
        this part's kind of important
Try and avoid anything overly gory just because not everyone is okay with that stuff and this picture is for everyone

Pose/Reaction:
what exactly are you doing and how are you reacting to the Tf (it's hard for me to make up your reactions for you when i don't have a full grasp on your character's personalities)

Group Options:
If you and another member want to be doing something together in the picture, please work that out before you post and mention it in both of your posts

that's everything i'll need. and remember:

DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 20th

Writer's Guild / dream link device
« on: September 11, 2012, 05:19:16 PM »
here's a short little story because i have ideas and nothing to draw with.
punctuation and caps fail because i wrote this in a hurry...sorry to anyone who gets annoyed by that stuff...i know i do

The Dream Link Device

Mark wasn't one to dream much. sure he had them every night, technically all people do. although he usually forgot them and the ones he remembered were blurry and made no sense. this was pretty normal for a human. so when Mark fell asleep and immediately felt as though he woke up again, lying in a grassy field under a clear, blue sky, he was confused to say the least.

What Mark felt became something far more than just confusion as an odd creature looked down at him from where he lay on the grass. he had never seen anything like it. the little thing clearly wasn't human...and it was then that he realized he was dreaming. but this dream was different. it was so real and his mind was so clear he could even remember lying down in bed. a perfectly lucid dream. this certainly wasn't normal. and neither was the little humanoid bird-like creature staring down at him.

Now normally Mark would have freaked...but he knew this was a dream by now so he felt surprisingly relaxed, and got himself up. and yet suddenly he recognized a confused look on the little owl-creature's face...
"is something wrong?"

"who're you?"

"ummmm...i'm Mark"

"what're you doing here?"

"it seems to me i'm dreaming"

"well this isn't your dream!"

"what do you mean?"

"get out of here! how did you even...oooooooooooooh"

The little humanoid owl reached into his pocket and pulled out a little remote control looking device. it was covered in blinking lights and dials, which he quickly began fiddling with, all the while waving the remote at him.

"yup...wrong address"

"wrong address?!"

"yeah...i don't know how i'm gonna fix this one, you're really not supposed to be here while this thing is in beta"

"what thing?"

"the dream link"

"dream link?...man did i eat something weird before bed tonight?"

"it's a device that allows to users to share a dream together...i'm almost done with it too"

"you mean like inception?"

the owl sighed. "As long as you're here...i guess i can run the test with you"

"test? that doesn't sound like fun..."

"oh no it's quite fun, just...just try wiggling your fingers"

is this it? Mark thought as he wiggled his fingers... i thought he said this would be-

"now jump"

mark did a little hop, nothing happened. does anything interesting happen here

"now wag your tail a little...oh...wait"

mark, being a perfectly normal human, had no tail. this was apparently a hitch in the test.

"you see i planned to conduct this test with someone who had a  tail...this is a problem"

"sorry about that"

"well i guess we can just lead into step 4 since that will cover this...normally i would have you imagine an orange balloon...but since this is a dream...i guess you can start by imagining yourself a tail...then we can continue"

Mark wasn't entirely sure how this worked...but it was a dream...anything can happen. Mark looked at the little owl's set of tail feathers...he thought about just using that for inspiration but he thought that might be rude...maybe something a bit more...fuzzy.

With a poof mark realized that something had just burst a hole right through the seat of his pants...which, looking down, he realized were still his pajamas, although right now they had a fluffy, gray tail poking out of them. Mark, of course, was quite excited to see that he had done this himself.

"that's 3 and 4 checked off..."

Mark was busy poking his new tail. for a dream, it felt so real...

"hey...focus so i can get this over with!"

mark looked back up at the owl, who seemed to have been grading him on a clipboard.

"we just need a simple hearing and vision test...i wouldn't want people unable to hear in their own dream link"

"hearing and eye test...just like the one you get at the doctor's?"

"yep, just read this chart, row by row"

" E-X-W-C...L-V-W-Z-D-A-G...H-Y-T-R-S-U-I-O-F-K-J."

"very good, now put these on"

a pair of headphones were placed over mark's ears...

"ok almost done...just tell me when you hear the tone"

"...i can't hear anything..."

mark was worried...had he lost his hearing because of this dream linker thingy?!

"ugh...ok i forgot. humans have terrible hearing, can we just fix that...just like you did with the tail?"

this came easier to him the second time...and a pair of fuzzy ears were there on the top of his head within seconds.

"i can hear the tone just fine...wow this is so-"

"yes yes i'm sure it's great...now let's be going...go on shoo. and don't forget to order your own dream link unit soon, get one for all of your friends and make your dreams a party! just $25.99!"

mark was shoved right in the chest and fell over backwards...but he landed on something soft. he looked around to see that it was his bed...in his room. he was awake from the strangest dream ever. and he could remember it clearly...and that's when he noticed the uncomfortable lump in his bed right under his butt. and he rolled over to move it, thinking it was a pillow, only to have a furry gray tail brush his face...he tugged on it...it was his, just like in the dream...a quick feel of his head showed the ears were still there too...Mark was going to need to file a bug report.

so ya gets a chibi drawing to add to your steadily growing (or absent...something i aim to fix) collection of adorable character art...so you can have one character, a prop if you want, and you can chose a solid background color.

here's an example:

Writer's Guild / A Story of Discovery: rough draft
« on: April 10, 2012, 06:27:58 PM »
this didn't take me very long and i would appreciate any comments to try and improve it.

Prologue:
Everything and nothing…yes…that was it.
 Everything and nothing.
Infinite matter with no space to contain it…
And at the same time all the space one could ever need…
If I plug this into the negative contact instead would it go backwards?
No…wait. Stay focused
Organized thought was never one of my strengths.
But I have all the time in the world to remember…
Part one:
The nothingness above me was still there when I opened my eyes. Nothing unusual. Just the flat white infinity which greeted me every time I awoke. Underneath me was grass. According to the ink marked, flattened cellulose sheets which had one day fallen from the sky, grass was meant to be on the ground. Other things had fallen from the sky as well. Usually accompanied by a noise. One I never seemed to be prepared to record and study. I looked at the things which the space above me had given me. Things with strange names. Sometimes printed on them, sometimes listed in that those papers. The ones bound together with more paper. Although it was the paper within this other paper that contained information. I had a few of those clumps of paper. The one labeled “Encyclopedia” had told me once that it and all the other ones were called “Books.” I liked the Encyclopedia. It always knew what things were.
With a cursory glance at my many books, I set off towards my tree. When I first saw my tree one day. Sitting there in a bowl of soil near my workspace. I didn’t know it was a tree. All I knew was I combined water, methane, ammonia, and a shock of electricity one day and the next I had a group of little moving blobs. Visible only with the delicate lens I spent hours creating. In time I watched each one spit, combine, and change. And one day there was tree. I was quite proud of myself for having produced this tree. According to the Encyclopedia, trees like mine were what all my books were made of. When tree dropped a strange reddish sphere to the ground and more trees came from it, I sliced some up and found that with a little effort I had my own paper, but was disappointed to find that it had no words or information on it. Further research suggested that words had to be placed there separately. Having no idea what words I should put there, the blank paper was lost and forgotten.
I finally arrived at my workplace. The first of many waist-high grey cubes was dominated by the laptop. I took great care of that laptop. The Encyclopedia, dictionary, and a few other books which were refered to as “Novels” all talked about such devices. When it came from up above, accompanied by that mysterious sound, I was excited. Books had told me that these things were ways of communicating, recording, and computing. However it refused to operate as described. As I later learned it had broken. This was one of the first items I modified. With a scrap of matter I pulled from limbo, I was able to rebuild it with diagrams and instructions. After I successfully modified the laptop, I realized that the matter of my world was mine to control. I was able to make anything. I was able to have all those things that books talked about. And an eternity of research was stored within it. All the observations I made. Everything I learned.
Today I was more excited to see it than usual. I was excited to see it’s results. On the day of a conclusion I always tried to open notepad too fast, and I had to shut it back down and reboot, but I got it working at some point. With notepad up for recording results, I stopped my hand from shaking with excitement long enough to click on my control application, smiling as the lights and motors on my lab equipment lit up. With a flick of my hand I had assembled equipment that was said to be worth millions of those dollar things. The ones all those book characters needed to get things that belonged to others. I wondered why they couldn’t just make those things like I did.
I nearly passed out from excitement when I saw a positive return on my latest device. It was finally time. I was going to learn where all those people and places and the sources of all those books, pencils, cameras, key rings, bits of paper, and everything else. I was fed up with being alone on nothing, and I was going to find that world I had learned so much about. I pressed the key without even thinking. Not as dramatic as I had wanted this moment to be, but I would work with it. It didn’t matter anyways because the device was powering up. Despite being 30 feet running still seemed too slow, and I flew the whole way. The red glow was too much, even for my goggles. the giant ark straight up into nothing was mesmerizing.
Part two:
I shielded my eyes from the glow as the white empty space turned black. Everything began to shake and I fell to the ground. Even then I didn’t think once about stopping the device. Being completely alone for as long as I was does terrible things to your mind. Not even as the objects nearest to my machine began to vaporize. With barely the sense to grab my laptop and collection of books I stared. Everything I wasn’t holding was turning to ash before my eyes. Even the ash appeared to be crumbling. Still my disorganized brain could do nothing more than let me stare with a dumb smile on my face. My world was ripped away, replaced by a black void full of strange colored lights. Nothing left but a hole. Not a normal hole like one you could dig in the ground or punch in a wall, but a hole in everything. I couldn’t bring myself to move forward but I didn’t need to. The hole was pulling me in and I let it take me.
I think it took me a few days for sense to return but I at least regained the ability to move, not that it did anything as I fell down a hole without moving an inch. I heard voices in the nothing, and screams as well.
“Oh dear god…WHAT DID YOU DO!?’
“I don’t know sir”
“MY GOD WE’RE GONNA DIE!”
“RUN!”

Then there was no hole, and no falling, only pain. I didn’t feel pain often, I was pretty safe back where I was. That made my entry far worse. It also made it hurt more when I sat up in a bed in a room I’d never seen before. I caught a glimpse of white walls before falling back into the bed with a shout. Then I was dead to the world once again.
I saw someone the next time I regained consciousness.  Based on information regarding different genders in living beings I determined that this was in fact a female someone. The opposite of me, a male. She was covered in all white clothing, an official looking uniform of some sort. I don’t think we got off to a very good start considering she was removing the bandages which covered the left side of my body, which was quite painful. I looked down at myself and saw scorch marks covering me, feathers singed off in many places. She noticed that I was awake and tried to say something to me but the pain I felt when she removed those bandages sent me under again.
I woke up again. This time alone. Feeling numbness but no pain. I sat up a bit and looked over myself. I deduced I was out for a few days because I had far fewer burns and far more regrown feathers. Then I noticed my left arm. I don’t know if that’s accurate considering I no longer had one. My screams quickly brought another person. A male dressed in the same uniform. He had a nametag which introduced him as Dr. Lyle Kesper. A doctor. I was in a hospital being treated. He tried to calm me down, telling me that I was going to be fine. Meanwhile I was staring at the stub that remained of my left arm. Not because it was gone, but because unlike the rest of me it was still producing a massive amount of pain. Dr. Kesper was staring at it with a strange expression on his face. I hadn’t seen any other faces clearly except my own, and I didn’t quite understand his expression at first. Then I looked where he was looking. At the blueish glow consuming my left shoulder. He was wearing an expression of horror on his brownish, furred face. A similar expression to the one I had within seconds.
As other doctors rushed into the room. Appearing in all shapes and colors. People shouted. I couldn’t hear over the pounding of blood in my ears but I could watch everything as an entire new arm grew right out of the spot where I had lost the old one. In a matter of minutes I felt like I hadn’t been hurt at all. While I stared at my arm doctors scribbled down notes and jabbed me with syringes and tried to ask me questions. When they realized I wasn’t capable of answering them at the moment then had a few nurses push my gurney out the doors and down the hall. They tried to help me sit in a strange chair but stopped when they saw I could walk just fine. Then someone grabbed me by the hand and led me down the many hallways.
Part three:
The events at the hospital and the next few days went by far too fast for me to recall much of what was said or the people I met. But as I began to understand what people said to me and focused enough to look around I was overcome with a feeling of success. Sitting on the bed in a small room where I had been led, I silently cheered myself and remembered those few moments. I had found others. I was in the place where all those people and stories were, and I felt good.
