Title: Clay Virmir!
Post by: Virmir on December 26, 2009, 11:22:32 PM
Clay Virmir

Not really happy with how the face turned out.  Oh well... [;)

I uploaded a bunch more pictures here: http://virmirish.crimsonflagcomic.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1103

It's very good, albeit a bit creepy in the face. It needs bigger eyes.

I dont think Making the eyes bigger would solve the problem if anything they might exaggerate the problem. Mainly from the fact Bigger Eyes = cuter and/or younger, it would make it look weirder it wouldn't quite fit the body and head proportions Vir made.

Thorough I note the eyes look neutral looking, while Drawn Virmir's usually have the slanted upper eye lid more pronounced giving them a 'devious' look.

If anything I suspect the muzzle is too thick and such, or something like that.

Generally, cool and GREAT! Especially if one considers how hard a material it is to work with.

Good pick of the "official" photo, too... only thong that catches the nitpicker's (*points to himself and bows*) eye is the nose... which seems a bit too large. Eyes are good in size, in my opinion.

The other pics from the Virmirish gallery make me think the muzzle is a bit too short and thick, but, well, it's not bad in any case, just could be even better. {;)
On one or two other photos he seems shorter and wider... but I guess you either fixed it or it was an artifact of the way the photo was taken. (Too close to the lens?)

Also: CAAAAAPE... *wags tail*

Things were going well until I got to the head.  Then I realized that this form of art was an entirely different beast altogether. [;)  I think some of the problem stems from some of my proportions in the way I draw his face not really translating to three dimensions... or if they do, me not understanding how to translate them properly. [;)

Anyway, was fun.  As I mentioned in the chat, I just wanted to do something *different* yesterday.  But now that that's out of my system, I'll be sticking to drawing for a while. [;)

Yeah, the illusions we create in two-dimensional art don't really hold true for three dimensions. ]fox[.  I still really like it! It's always refreshing to try something in a new medium and get a new perspective on it.

I'll have to agree with Tvorsk: CAAAAAPE...The cape so makes the Virmir, I'll have to say.

I once started to try to model Beastling in 3D in pottery class, but then I realized that the way I'd been drawing his hair defied the very laws of physics.

But yeah, good work.  It's impressive.

The cape is great, by the way.

As an aside, what'd ya' make it out of?  Sculpey?

I probably shouldn't be speaking for virmir... but from the looks of it, plain Plasticine/modelling clay!

I think Vir also had fine wire in the Antennae hair!

The brand name is "Plasticlay", I think. But yeah, similar stuff. [;)

And yep, lots of structural wires inside. [;)

Thanks!
