They've created a monster! Well. More of a monster.

Is it just me, or does Julian look a little more buff?

True origins of Virmir right there?

Not like it's the first time we've seen Julian's rusty groin fur.

Why does Lucian have so little red fur anyways, inbreeding?

I imagine Julian does this in front of the mirror every morning, for practice. Laughter first, then pants.

Nothing will ever keep *him* down. Able to shapeshift and command an army of mindless vermin, much like his reign over the Elderwood. {;)

And did he just pull an old, dirty piece of cloth over himself? His life as a Lord has not given him any qualms over filth, clearly. {;)

I imagine those hoodlums that stole the Death Evan will be coming about to save their little lord soon enough. I wonder whether Lucien will be crowned the new Lord of the Elderwood before Julian returns. That would be quite the exciting scene!

Did Julian learn this mastery over form at about the same time as Lucien? Why/how? Does he have even a clue yet that he's contagious (both curse and cure) even without the staff? That would be one advantage Lucien currently has over him.

Fur dye, trying to be polite to Reds when among them?
Note that he does have red fur on the sides and such places which are usually covered by clothing.

Also, to maintain consistency with the color design that happened in the earliest strips by accident.

It's not by accident Tvor. Grey Reyn, much like Grey Foxes have slices of ruddy red-orange between their grey and White fur.

IIRC Vir wasn't sure originally if he could draw the mixed color pattern that most grays have very well so he ended up just drawing Lucian flat out gray.

That too yea.

Which of course he got around by making the rusty marks hidden

That exactly was my point... Greys usually have the red fur visible on places like neck and limbs.

Lucian doesn't, because IIRC Virmir shown him some old MK Virmir (so 100% gray) pictures to Tod as something to base Lucian on.
Then the fact he was never before seen without clothes has been used by Virmir to add at least some red on the main body.

Actually, Tod was not involved with the coloring part.  Essentially I was not terribly confident with fur patterns in my earliest gray fox coloring attempts!  (See all Virmirs, Lucian, proto-Julian.) Hence the simplification.  By the time I colored Julian for the first time a few strips in, I decided to give him at least a little red under the clothes for consistency.

I see what you're talking about, but it might not mean anything. It's been 130 comics or so since we've seen Julian, and Virmir's ability to draw muscle tone on toons has improved. Just look how Nick suddenly had a muscle tone in comic 282.
