So Emmeline got dragoned, and we've seen a rat-dragon elsewhere. My wild guess is that the world has a contagious dragon-apocalypse building in the background. :-P

The Bridge on any air/spaceship, no matter how ridiculously placed, always survives unless it's a specific plot point that it has to be destroyed.
