Title: Lyte
Post by: Kiba on December 05, 2009, 04:48:52 PM
Warning: This story contains good grammar and punctuation. Also it's very long.
(Thanks, Jonas, for going through all that trouble for me! ^^)

Finally finished this and must say I rather enjoyed it. [:)

The only issue I can see, as was mentioned on the MK list, is the librarian, since we've had a couple of them in the past.  All you really need to do is change the line "the librarian" to something like "one of the librarians" or "librarian's aid" (or maybe he's more of a registrar?) and you should be set. Ow, ow ow. I'd like to read it, but the old Microsoft Office does not cooperate with .docx files. Can you save it as a .doc file? Thanks!

If you have a legal version of MS office, and Windows (I presume) you should be prompted to install a plugin so that Word 2003 can read docx files. ]:)

Edit: it appears you don't 'need' to have a legal version of office/windows (ie: it doesn't force you to run that Genuine Advantage tool or whatnot before downloading it)

Still, .doc and .rtf (ESPECIALLY .rtf) are the preferred formats for story sharing.
Hmm... could that be posted as a rule somewhere?

Now, the free OpenOffice.org (http://openoffice.org/) 3.1 apparently can read MS Office 2007 files. The "Open File" dialog has .docx on the type list. No idea how good it works, tho.

EDIT: Well, OO.org 3.1 opened the Kiba's story. Paragraphs and margin annotations are kept. Any special formatting (if it existed - how can I know without Office 2007?) got lost, it's all simple 11pt Calibri (Well, fall-back Arial; I don't have Calibri font installed).

true true since not Everyone has the plugin /or is able to install it...

though it should be a "guideline "rather than a 'Rule'
