"Oh, trees!" Well, that's one way to express shock.  [:P

Hmm... Black Reyn...

Quote from: Crimson Flag's About Page
Other races inhabit the world of Vandairia as well, including the technical-minded Snows (arctic foxes), the shamanistic, nature-tuned, and occasionally thieving Swifts (swift foxes), and the desert-faring, large-eared Fens (fennec foxes).

Swifts are mentioned here, but swift foxes aren't very black... Ponderous.

Black Reyn... so it wasn't a red that killed his father... BUT IT STILL DOESN'T EXPLAIN HIS HATRED TOWARD THE REDS!!!

I'm betting it's someone from one of the known races who dyed his fur (To avoid being linked to the murder). Definitely not a fennec, and probably not a arctic either (His ears are pointy instead of round-ish)

Another option is that he's a red with unusual fur color (There have been quite a few in the comic after all, although beyond a cross fox most simply had some gray fur here and there).
Seeing how this guy was kinda hidden in shadows (So details aren't visible), he could very well be a silver fox or the like.

HAHA! I knew black reyn would pop up eventually! :D mostly cause, I was bugging Virmir before about the "blue morph" arctic foxes that have a nearly deep winter coat,

(well I may be wrong inspiration wise, but I do remember telling something along the lines of black reyn)

I vote in favor of this black theory.

Racism sometimes doesn't HAVE a trigger: it's just there. Maybe his father taught him to hate the reds.

Perhaps its not so much as hatred toward Reds specifically, but hatred toward everything that is not grey.
Will this flashback explain why Julian is so insane?

Perhaps differently sane.  Sure, his methods are crazy, but it's still clear that he at least has some reason for xenophobia.  :P

Xenophobia is one thing, but what he was trying to do is way beyond that, and considering the odds he placed himself against, he would have to be mad to think he could win. Though, speaking of methods, I wonder what his previous "brilliant plans" were?
It also seems that he took to being a "Lord's Son" far more enthusiastically than Lucian did, Julian must have wanted his son to be just as he was at his age, in the very same way that his own father wanted Julian to be like him before he was assassinated. Of course, this is merely speculation.
