Eh, to me its more likely containment. After all, that is Lucian, and weve already seen that having no hands dosen't stop them from becoming flaming demons of death.

Hmm... just for clarity, I'm pretty sure the fox in the center of the staffs is Emiline.

 It's the first time we've bot a good look at her feral form with Virmir's art style, but the small bit of coloration on the top of the head is the telling detail. Also given that the archemage was the one who went to engage her in battle, it makes a lot of sense that he'd be watching over her.
