Because floating wizards facing down dragons is necessary.  Wholly and utterly.

It'll be interesting to see if he's outmatched or his confidence is warranted.

I'm seriously questioning Kesnar's reason for wearing those glasses. How does he see out of them when they seem to be reflecting that much light?

It could be he has extremely light-sensitive eyes, so that he needs a large portion of incoming light to be negated or reflected somehow, so that he isn't constantly blinded, or he might be blind already, and they're smoked glasses.

Or maybe they're normal glasses and Virmir is too lazy to draw eyes behind them.

They're shiny glasses of doom! http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ScaryShinyGlasses

Speaking of which, wouldn't the head wizard, assuming he is aware of this, be somewhat more concerned about a massive spell charging up beneath them all?

I had the wrong idea about this trope until I actually read the article. Thank you, I feel a thousand times *smarter*.

On his younger, less menacing self, I could easily see them as being these:

(Muahaha, I linked TVTropes again. All your time are belong to us ...)

fun fact, if you read enough TV Tropes articles, the website plants a seed of infection in your brain, and particularly notable articles are lodged into your cranium. You don't need to read them anymore; you are the articles.

This may or may not have happened to me.
