They're falling under the Puppetmancer's spell. He's offered only the thing they want the most. All they have to do is let everything out that Vetra captured. As I said that may include things won in battle BEFORE she became corrupted. Smashing the thing might be opening Pandora's Box. Hell even TALKING about it already has Roko running off to do something ill thought out and stupid to stop it happening. He thinks they just want to get rid of him!
Vetra needs to go, not that gem. What's in there needs to be released in a controlled fashion.

Ya but killing vetra could cause a endless Drought. Further more, we don't actual know anything about her. We have had 2 scenes with her. For all we know She would have game Brand his wings back. Wings that in all honesty didn't even matter sense they are decoration. She could in theory be Really reasonable.
As imagine if she stole his ability to breath fire Or his arms or legs? Or lets be frank she could have straight up just killed brand or locked him away forever. As for a Merciless god of lighting and rain. She seems to be more then willing to be lenient. So as much as you want to hate her. Until we know more about her keep and open mind.
As in all honesty don't you find it weird that the quetz are overall Loved by everyone? If they were such tyrants why are the only people who hate them volcano dragons? Volcano dragons who mind you are described as Tyrants who only cares for themselves.
Ps. forgot about Darya but to me she feels like someone who dose not want to free people from the tyranny of the quetz. More like Free them so they can be enslaved by her sorta deal.. Swear almost every single person we meet is evil.
