...  The Quetz are baby snatchers.  Geeze, they sound worse than the Jedi.

And, as expected, this lighthearted little tribal village romp turned dark faster than a page can flip. Somehow, the slave lottery for Laputa is worse than what I expected the "standings" to be.

And Burando-san, being ever-so-talented at ending up in the middle of a disaster, now faces another one. Telling the Aves the truth would be hysterically risky - these are totally loyal to Vetra-jou. And even if they WERE willing to keep their presence a secret, that puts THEM at just as high a risk. What do you think Prince Shock Jockey would do with that village if he found out they were hiding "Saida?"

He isn't going to play around with Suzokon-kyo forever.

(If Brand were smart about this he'd just put on the Royal We, and say, "We do not require any at this time. We have sufficient slaves." But this is BRAND we're talking about).

Do they know Saida from previous personal visits (collections)? Has she been more conservative than other quetz in egg collection? Is collection just for slaves or for food too?

Not going to lie, i think the worst bit is How freely they give up their children. As sure, i was like. Hey maybe they actual want to serve the gods. So even if they are servants they get to live in a floating palace and all that. Might be a good gig even if one or two gets Turned to dust by an angry Qeltz. You know occupational hazard with working with Creatures that can shoot lighting. But to see them not only giving tribute of precious gems. But Also tribute of their children. It is like, this is getting way to excessive.

Specially considering how these birds are acting. Like this is just normal for them to show up and give them stuff. They didn't even bat an eye. Hell they didn't even question the fact that most likely they were not hear at the correct tribute time. Just hey the queltz are hear time to give up the children.

Like this has reached what i would like to call fanatical cult levels. Where horrific things is going on and they don't even bat an eye. In fact they seem bizarrely giddy about it.

Well I'm sure the birds at the top of their local hierarchy benefit quite a bit from their continued "cooperation" with the Quetz. Being a slightly more important peon does come with a few perks, even if it does come with reduced life expectancy.

To be fair i don't think this entire world has a very high life expectancy. From the Evil Enslaving tentacles monster that rules the sea. The Giant flying snake beings that control the storms. The Living Volcanoes that get so angry that they Erupt into a natural disaster. The Gigantic Sun dragon which Literately carries the sun around. And don't forget that gigantic Moon otter that that swims threw space dragging the moon by its tail...

Ya god knows what other eldritch horrors exist in this world. So being servants/slaves to a goddess might be a good thing in the long run.

Maybe. But Brand seems to have a sense of decency, which isn't something you acquire living in a brutal dystopian hellscape your whole life. Somewhere, some people live happy lives (at least for a time) or else no one would expect any better.
