This is the thread for the best 4 out of 7 match between Juubi_No_Ookami and Selden.
Game 1. Juubi_No_Ookami(X) vs Selden(O), board boxes.
Game 2. Selden(X) vs Juubi_No_Ookami(O), board boxes.
Game 3. Selden(X) vs Juubi_No_Ookami(O), board diagonals.
Game 4. Juubi_No_Ookami(X) vs Selden(O), board diagonals.
Game 5. Juubi_No_Ookami(X) vs Selden(O), board ceeeff.
Game 6. Selden(X) vs Juubi_No_Ookami(O), board ceeeff.
Game 7. Selden(X) vs Juubi_No_Ookami(O), board generated via random.org.
Remember that O is allowed to swap symbols with X as a first move (instead of placing a piece)!
-
Let us begin.
-
I think I'm going to have to switch places with Juubi. I'm pretty sure that means I don't get a move... right, Grant?
-
If that's how you feel.
-
I think I'm going to have to switch places with Juubi. I'm pretty sure that means I don't get a move... right, Grant?
Correct; Selden is now X for the remainder of the game, and Juubi_No_Ookami plays the second piece (as O).
However, Juubi_No_Ookami has made an illegal move: every piece must share an edge with at least one previous piece.
-
Today is not my day... Fixed.
-
Sorry, didn't see that you'd gone, Juubi.
-
No harm done. {:)
-
Redone as PNG so the bucket will work right.
-
Hmmm...
-
A solid defensive move. But I think I made it work out for me, too. |;)
-
I'm not sure where to go now...
-
I still have a move planned, but I'm saving that for later. |;)
-
I have a feeling I know what move you speak of...
-
Time will tell.
-
I can only see 2 moves from here...
-
I see one move now, where I was going to put that last L. But I decided I liked that move a little more.
-
Good game.
-
I'll try this for a starter.
-
Game 1. Selden wins 15-9
Game 2. Selden(X) vs Juubi_No_Ookami(O), board boxes.
You've already started the game without my prompting. Awesome. ]:)
-
I'm good at following simple directions. |:P
-
I hope I do better this game.
-
Don't worry, Juubi - I'm sure you will! Anyone can make a mistake.
-
*Nods*
-
Your turn!
-
Had a hard time figuring this move out...
-
Sorry. I'll try not to bore you so much. |;)
-
Naw. It's not your fault.
-
Not what I was expecting, there. You threw me for a bit of a loop.
-
XP
-
Now that was that I'd expected!

-
That's one way to do lab testing! |:)
-
... (Nothing clever to say here)
-
Unless I'm mistaken, that's the end. 11-8 - good game, Juubi!
-
Selden's last movie is illegal. 2x2 region created.
-
Fixed it. 12-9.
-
Game 1. Selden wins 15-9
Game 2. Selden wins 12-9
Game 3. Selden(X) vs Juubi_No_Ookami(O), board diagonals.
Go!
-
I'm not sure where to start, so I'll just go with this.
-
Hmm...
-
Odd... I know I erased the piece I used, but it looks like that didn't save somehow. Oh well, it's fixed.
-
Almost to the X's...
-
I think I'll wait just a little longer before trying to defend my symbols.
-
So defend mine instead?
-
This looks like a good time for a defensive piece.
-
Hmm...
-
Hmm?
-
(No clever comment here, either)
-
I don't have anything clever to say, either. As you might have noticed from my previous comments. |;)
-
I have. :P
-
Ouch. It hurts because it's true. |:(
-
Unless I'm wrong, that's game.
-
Looks like game to me too. Grant?
-
Game 1. Selden wins 15-9
Game 2. Selden wins 12-9
Game 3. Selden wins 13-10.
Game 4. Juubi_No_Ookami(X) vs Selden(O), board diagonals.
Go!
-
*nods* Alright.
-
*sits quietly, knowing he has nothing clever to say*
-
*clack* [The green tetrionimo hits the board]
-
*a blue tetromino is silently placed on the board. Your opponent wonders for a moment if his stripe is starting to interfere with his thinking* |:P
-
*the red tetromino is slid into place, akin to a chess piece* {:P
-
*clink*
-
*slide, nod*
-
*another piece is placed*
-
*Shakes head*
-
*headtilts*
-
*Grins*
-
Just as well. I didn't really want to skunk you!
-
The best Defence is a good Offence... But not right now.
-
You may have won.... but I can still force you to cover some of your own symbols! Mwahahahaha! |:P
-
Good game, Selden.
-
Yes, it was!
-
Game 1. Selden wins 15-9
Game 2. Selden wins 12-9
Game 3. Selden wins 13-10.
Game 4. Juubi_No_Ookami wins 11-9.
Game 5. Juubi_No_Ookami(X) vs Selden(O), board ceeeff.
Go.
-
*murmurs to himself, trying to think out his move, then places a tetromino*
-
A little bit of defense can't hurt... much!
-
No, no it cannot.
-
Of course, this is the map you beat me on once before. You shouldn't have too hard a time doing it again! |:)
-
Well, it's too early to tell who will win.
-
Yes, it is. Onward, then!
-
*nods* I'm on a horse.
-
Is it a pale horse?
-
Yes. Look down, Now back up. What's in your hand? I have it. It's two tickets to that thing you love. Look down. Back up. The tickets are now diamonds.
-
I think I'd take the tickets over some funny rocks.
-
Well, here you go. *hands the tickets to Selden*
-
*accepts the tickets, offers the rocks* Thank you.
-
One move left, and I believe it comes out to be 11-9 in my favor, if I'm not missing anything else...
Good game!
-
There's one more move that I see, but that still leaves it at 9-9... and since you'll place the last piece, you win! A very good game!
-
I'm not sure if there are any more.
-
How about a hint?
-
Game 1. Selden wins 15-9
Game 2. Selden wins 12-9
Game 3. Selden wins 13-10.
Game 4. Juubi_No_Ookami wins 11-9.
Game 5. Juubi_No_Ookami wins 9-9.
Game 6. Selden(X) vs Juubi_No_Ookami(O), board ceeeff.
I have to admit, I was not prepared for the possibility of a tie game where the last piece was placed by one player on the other's "behalf". The current tournament rules say that the piece is treated as though it was played by the person who should have played it on their turn, meaning Juubi_No_Ookami is considered the winner. In a future revision of the tournament rules, I might have it explicitly say that the player who actually placed the last piece wins ties, even if it was on the other player's "behalf", to make the penalty for trying to pass a little greater, but it would be unfair to modify the rules midway through!
Start the new game, Selden!
-
I'll try this for a start.
-
Hmmm...

Effective immediately, if a player takes longer than a week to make a single move, the arbiter shall give that player a strike. (This is in addition to the opponent's option to give that player a strike for having not moved for 48 hours, or to claim victory for having not moved for a week.) If the player hasn't moved for two weeks, the arbiter shall eliminate that player. (I don't want any games stalling because their opponents are too merciful to give them strikes, but I also don't want to take away a player's ability to exercise mercy if they wish.)
Juubi_No_Ookami gets a strike. Two more strikes over the course of this game, and Juubi_No_Ookami will be eliminated. Selden has chosen not to claim victory because he believes you may simply not be aware the second game has started, and if possible, I'd much rather see actual gameplay determine the winner rather than the lack thereof. Nonetheless, if you don't move within the next week, then you will be eliminated, whether Selden wants it or not.
(Remember, though, that strikes don't carry over from game to game, so if you complete this one, then the strike will be eliminated from your record. ]:))
-
Gah, sorry.
-
Don't worry about it.
-
Hmm...
-
*pats his stripe and grins to himself*
-
*closes his eyes, and thinks about his next move*
-
C4... miss. Wait, what game are we playing again?
-
Qc7. We're playing chess. [;)
-
Oh... no wonder I'm doing so badly!
-
*giggles, places a piece on the board*
-
I believe there are three moves left now.
-
2, now.
-
And then there was one. Good game, Juubi!
-
You too!
-
