I'm wondering why the crater doesn't fill with water or whether the lake is salty from evaporation.

Cunning. If you can't execute someone officially then boot them off a cliff and hope for the best. If they survive, good for them. If not, then it was clearly the Lady's will. {;)

I wonder what Julian will find in this chasm; a long lost civilisation, a tribe of forgotten exiles (including the descendents of exiles), or perhaps the Black Reyn will reveal themselves as mischievous puppet masters over Reds and Greys. The possibilities are endless.
