...Who always turns number lock off? I hate it for some reason, since I learned to use the number line above the letters in typing class, and that light that shows that the number lock is on always drives me up a wall for some reason. I wanna turn it oooooooff; number pad is superflous.

Nooooooo.... I use the number pad and keys just as much as the top line of numbers. It's especially quick to key in a number and hit the handy second enter key. Seriously! Who uses those keys as arrows and Pd Dn and stuff? That's just silly. Gray Fox Wink

I actually keep it on all the time. Not that it makes much diffrence to me. I always use the toprow number keys.

I keep it on. The movement stuff is kinda meh, and I think I learned alot from a calculator, which makes the num pad work so well.

Toast: you can Disable the Num Lock by default in the BIOS!

I use both, Usually the numpad for when I have to Input a LOT of numbers! (Though 99% of the time now Im on a laptop without a numpad!~)

I didn't use a number pad untill at I got my job at target and I had to type my team number in like 20 times a day. Now its a life saver! I'm glad my lappy has a number pad too now.

I used to use the number keys above the letters, mostly. That changed when I started to have to enter values into spreadsheets for college. I use the number pad exclusively now -- it's just so much faster.

Both have their uses.

I use nearly exclusively the regular number keys, and have numpad remapped to additional functions. After all, when I'm typing text, I'd need to reach over half a keyboard to get to the numpad.
And I am totally baffled by people (especially common for office clerks) that reach to numpad to type a single digit or two in the middle of their text paragraph.

The exception is when I'm doing a bulk data entry of stuff that's all numbers - in this case, I can't argue the fact that numpad is faster. But that's because I'm using only numbers and the Return key. If I'd have to type a letter during that, it'd again be a "long way over" to the text keys.
