Title: Islands of Infinity
Post by: Stormkit on July 14, 2010, 07:40:10 PM
It is nighttime in the city of Krisnaf as dark motes cloud the sky. Through the darkened sky float tiny glints of light forming patterns and beautiful designs. The residents of this city do not pay this rare sight any mind though. They are used to the odd weather patterns that are so frequent in this world and there is nothing quite so jading as life in a city.

In a tall building near the island's dock entrance, a fox sits by a window. His sharp eyes make out a darker than normal shadow fly across the sky.

Towards the middle of the city, this shadow flies on his way to rendevue with a client who hired him to steal the Eye of Lamas, a crystal that originated from a far away island and tugs gently, trying to return to its home.

Underneath this shadow, a figure rests briefly in one of the few parks this city has to offer. This city is really no place for one such as he and he intended to end his visit shortly.

Nearby in the common room of an inn, a gambler's luck was starting to go against him. The other players were starting to suspect him of cheating and his recent losing streak wasn't convincing them otherwise.

In a quieter corner of the lounge, near a figure sitting in the shadows trying not to attract attention sat another fox, this one brighter somehow. He helped draw attention away from the figure in the corner, but this fox didn't notice with his muzzle buried inside a book from the local library.

These five people, all going about their own lives, never suspecting that fate would soon bring them together. Never suspecting the adventures that awaited them... in the Islands of Infinity.

Diving into a shadow of a nearby building, Nightmare quickly changes his fur to help blend in to the shadows the lights nearby cast, and the night itself. While he knows that he was able to leave unnoticed, he was not taking any chances as he returned to the "Crimson Steel". Looking accross the street at the Tavern, he tried to spy his contact for the trade, having told him that it was best dealing with it outside of the bar than from prying eyes within.

Seigfried Fuchs turns his attention away from the night outside and back to his work.  He carefully turns some small knobs, winds a spring, and closes the case.  He reaches around the back and flips a small lever, and the clock springs to life with a steady ticking.  He checks the hands against his pocket watch and smiles smugly.  To the second, just as planned.  He packs up his tools, snaps the latches on his briefcase closed, and says,
"There you are, sir, good as new.  That will be one point two five sil  for the new spring assembly, and two point seven five  for the time.  That brings the total to four, I believe." A pause to look out the window, then, "Quite a night we're having, wouldn't you say?"

OOC: Hehe, I don't have a name for the currency, but you may as well go with the bronze/silver/gold system. One hundred per each. Also you can control how the NPC getting your watch reacts. The only important NPC just now is Kenku's contact.

The figure in the shadows stirred. It was almost time for his meeting, and his contact didn't want to meet inside. 'Too many eyes,' he said. The figure shook his head ruefully. No one payed attention to anything in a place like this, but then he supposed it didn't hurt to not take chances. So leaving coin on the table for the drink which had been his excuse to not wait outside in the cold, he got up and passed the fox with his nose in a book. It was probably just as well... atmosphere was getting tense, a fight was likely to break out soon.

Making his way to the designated meeting point outside the figure, now revealed to be a tan furred hare, he saw that Nightmare was already there. A strange name for a person to have... probably a business name. The hare was not inclined to such things. A name... any name could always be traced back to a person if you weren't careful. But then a person such as Nightmare would need people to be able to find him if he wanted work. Still, not the sort of life the hare cared for. He kept his business short and straightforward. It loathed him to have to move in secrecy like this. Quickly checking to make sure the person waiting for him was the right one (or a very good impersonator) he then asked, "You have the delivery?"

OOC: Do you mind if payment for this is the Ring of Shadows or do you think your character would need that already for the work he does?

The bat with its grizzly looking smile steps halfway out of the shadow with a small bag in his hand. "That I do" he says, unwrapping the bag and showing the bright blue sapphire and holding for the hare to see. "You have my payment?"

OOC: Hmm...I would figure it would be more difficult to have captured the gem, but if you want to use it for story reasons, I have no problem with it.
Title: Re: Islands of Infinity
Post by: Stormkit on July 14, 2010, 11:54:38 PM
"Of course I have it," the hare said, almost scornfully. "But first I want to make sure." The hare pulled out a glass looking sphere. Inside it floated a small rock which was rotating slowly and drifting off near the top and to one side. The hare twisted off the lid and removed the stone before grabbing the Eye from Nightmare's open hand and popped it in. The gem started spinning and drifted off in the same direction the stone had been floating.

"Right," said the hare, pulling a small bag from his belt and handing it to Nightmare before putting the sphere with gem still inside back into the sack he pulled it out of. The rock he placed back on his neck. Inside the bag is a ring and two gold coins, payment for the job (and the crystal) and enough money to last a person for quite some time.

OOC: By estimation... common market purchases should be within copper range. A person could easily live on a silver per day when one considers food, rent, etc. You probably won't get jobs like this very often and it's probably been a while since your last job but those two gold will last you almost a year of regular living.

An older gentleman replies,
"Quite, I haven't seen one like this in many years."
There is a clinking of coins as the money changes hands, and he continues, "You certainly do fine work, though my wallet tells me you know already know that."

Seigried takes the money and chuckles lightly,
"And you have a sharp eye for quality.  Don't hesitate to write if anything goes wrong, if it's the spring again I'll even do your wallet a favor and fix it for free.  I must be off now, time waits for no man."
With that Seigfried makes his way down the stairs, and out into the night.

Kyan swipes three of the house dice from the table before him.  He rolls two back onto the table, and slips the other under the strap securing his right glove while everyone watches the dice.

"Snake Eyes."  Kyan frowns, and pushes the dice across the table to his opponent.  "Your roll."

He knew he shouldn't be staying this long, but he'd already turned a decent profit, and intended to leave before he risked losing even half of the day's income.  Still, he could practically feel the distrust of his fellow gamblers, and his luck had clearly started to turn.  "This will have to be my last game."

Swishing his tail briefly out of sight, he shifts the fur thereon to be longer, and black.

"Well, what are you waiting for?"  He stands up, and goes and stands beside his opponent.  "Aren't you going to roll?"
Title: Re: Islands of Infinity
Post by: Stormkit on July 15, 2010, 06:12:42 PM
The cat's opponent frowned and rolled the dice, a little distrustful. Once, twice they bounced before landing, once again on snake eyes. Before anyone could do anything, he snatched up the dice again and rerolled. Snake eyes. Again, and a fourth time and the roll was exactly the same.

"I knew it! You've been using weighted dice haven't you?" the stoat accused. This of course sent up an instant uproar and the stoat launched across the table at Kyan shouting, "I want my money back you two faced cheater!" The rest of the spectators hardly wanted to be left out of a fight and in their haste to join jostled each other. This merely turned their attentions to other targets and soon most of the common room was in uproar.

The barkeeper looked a little flustered, unsure how to deal with the situation but that wouldn't last long. Old Henry may be old but he wasn't weak and had a reputation for dealing with fights in his bar harshly.

"I can assure you I didn't weight those dice, you foolish stoat!  They're yours!"  ((That's what I meant by "house dice" anyway.))

Kyan blocks the stoat, throwing his hands in front of his face, and slides to the side, pushing the stoat in the direction of his preexisting movement.  When his hands drop down, his eyes have changed--they are no longer blue, and don't match.

Kyan grins, and turns to face the exit, letting his fur lengthen and fade to black over a few seconds.

"Well, guess I'd best be off, then."  Kyan begins to elbow and brawl his way towards the exit, always keeping his opponents within his aura.

Sennel's witchlight pulses red as he gets up, and from the side of his chair he picks up a carved staff of wood. "Keep it down!" He shouts irritably. Moving the staff in time with the melody in his head, he casts a spell and a quick tremor runs through the ground. Though not strong enough to even disrupt the patrons' glasses, it serves to destabilize the brawlers ((who presumably would also be under the ill luck aura for extra effect)).
Title: Re: Islands of Infinity
Post by: Stormkit on July 15, 2010, 07:07:12 PM
Kyan's reply is lost in the clamor, but his shove was certainly noticed by the stoat who crashed into the bar. With a shout of rage (also lost in the clamor) he started making his way back to the cat. About this time the bartender finally got his act together and with a roar loud enough to be vaguely heard over everyone else, turned into a towering (but still short enough not to hit the ceiling) golem.

One by one he started tossing people out the door, picking them up from the crowd starting with Kyan and ending eventually with the stoat. Shifting back into the somewhat more amiacable bull he'd started as, he spotted a fox near the back. Heading over he spoke up, "I'm going to have to ask you to leave. I know you didn't have much to do with this but I'm closing up early for repairs."

OOC: Several points of interest. The first is that the stoat thought you'd switched out the dice for your own. The multiple snake eyes were more because of your bad luck than any sort of weighting. As you your aura... you really can't use that as a weapon. Sticking near enemies doesn't make them liable to suddenly trip over stuff and your aura really only extends as far as arms reach anyway so you'd have to be pretty darned close. With prolonged exposure maybe they'd start getting unlucky (or lucky) but the little bit you've got so far does nothing. Only reason the dice are paying attention to your luck is because you've been playing with them all evening.

As for you Jonas, it's not actually music... that was just a metaphor. As for that spell you just cast, you probably wouldn't be able to focus enough on it if you weren't able to just ignore them and keep reading. If there's enough of a distraction that would interupt you reading, than that's enough to make any spell greater than a witchlight hard to focus on.

((yeah, I know.  I figure I've apparently been playing against the stoat for some time.))

Kyan lands on his feet a full black cat.  "Thanks for the exit, Barkeep!"

As the stoat also regains his footing, Kyan tries to stay out of sight and out of the fray.

"Well, no sense delaying any more."  Kyan drops to all fours and starts towards the edge of town.

((He stopped reading due to annoyance rather than inability to concentrate. Either way, if they weren't under any other effects the quake wouldn't have done much))

Suddenly very aware that the gamblers have turned their attention to him, Sennel grabs his bookbag and runs off after the cat. If he was going to be the target of angry bar patrons then he wasn't going to do so alone!

"Excellent" William smiled as he put the coins in his coin pouch, and looked at the ring. The polished black stone with almost lightning like patterns gleamed in the low light. "I must thank you. This ring will definitly better my work. I do hope I can work agian for you another time." he says as he put the ring on his wing finger(basically I seem him with two fingers, his thumb, and the natural finger that bats have).

"Then our transaction is complete," stated the hare who with a swirl of dry wind turned into a hawk and flew away, careful to avoid the suddenly crowded street near the bar.

OOC: Jonas, the only person paying attention to Sennel is the barkeeper who asked nicely. I'll say you left anyway, but just keep in mind that most of the gamblers are completely ignoring you for now. They didn't even notice your thing with the 'earth quake' if it was as minor as you say. I should point out that none of them were suffering from bad luck, just Kyan. This situation came about because the dice he had been playing with started playing against him after all.

On his way back to his shop, Seigfried hears  a quite an altercation from the tavern a block away.  Suddenly, a black cat comes bolting down an alleyway he was walking past.  Feeling suspicious, he reacts quickly to snatch the cat up by the scruff (which should be easy enough if he's unlucky right now :P).  Holding it up he chills his hand a bit and asks in an equally cold voice,

"What have we here... care to explain the ruckus, little kitty, or should I just turn you in for disturbing the peace?"

((basically using a very partial transformation to induce an artificial "chill down one's spine"))

OOC: Chills are kind of vague, not something you'd really be able to do. You can turn your hand to ice, but your affinity is precision which means it's more the angles and solidity you pick up than the temperature. There probably would be some temperature difference which might be enough to create an effect like that, but just letting you know as a 'keep in mind' sort of thing.

Looking out from his shadow William looks at little confused at the gruff confrontation going on, but just sighs. Barfights were common place, but he had hoped to at least get a good glass of ale and maybe a fly cake, not to mention see if his tipline had been wrung. For the moment however, he awaited in the shadow for the crowd to disperse, not wanting to reveal himself in the indignant lights for more than a few second.

OOC: Actually on a side note I should point out that whether or not someone gets grabbed has more to do with skill than luck. So whether you actually snatched Kyan is still up to Dragyn I think. As for William... that bar is closed for the evening but there's another one nearby if you want. Just keep in mind that the dispersing crowd is probably heading over that way as well. By the next time you post they should all be gone. Even the stoat will leave having lost his target.

Seeing the crowd dispurse William looked to the door to see Zeek the Bartender locking up. Whatever had caused the major bit of shoving must of caused some damage. He sighed, and shruged. He had hoped to get a quick spot of the bars good ale, but he can see not now. Ah well. There are other bars he thought as he stepped back into full shadow and shifting into feral bat form, flying twoard the other familiar stopping spot on the island. Landing quietly and reshifting to his own form behind a lamp, he tried his best to casually walk through the door, flipping a coin and a nod to the bartender as he headed for one of the darkest seats.

Kyan finds himself caught, but slips free and stumbles to his feet as he stands back up and turns to face Siegfried.

"Heh.  Nah, just a misunderstanding.  Nothing illegal's been done here--not by me, anyway.  I was just a bit unlucky, but everybody's unlucky sometimes, right?"  Kyan grins widely, pushing his hat slightly to one side so it partially covers his yellow eye.

He turns to face Siegfried.  "Seems like nobody trusts me.  Doesn't this look like a face you can trust?"

Kyan grins lopsidedly, mismatched eyes shining.

A few moments after William setteled down, a waitress came over to his table with a "Blood Ale" and a Dragonfly cake. As slowly consumes them, he thinks about what was on the bulliten board as he came in. As usual there were criminals with bounties on their head, and calls for work for odd jobs, but nothing that fit his fancy. He sighed, as he guessed he would have to try another island for pay. As he thought there idily, he looked at his new bauble in curiosity. The Hare had mentioned when the job began that the ring had the ability to amplify his powers at a substancial level, all with a simple syphoning of Aura through it. Ever curious, he decided that a simple test of the ring could be done without much issue, and poured a small piece of his aura into the ring.

Suddenly, the light within the Inn dims, as if rogue darkmodes came in the door. The bartender and the other patrons look around a little confused, wondering what happened. William looks at his ring with a smile before going back and finishing his ale.

(OOC: to the curious, "Blood Ale" is sorta a made up drink of local ale and blood orange^^)

Sennels ears suddenly perk up as he spins around to Seigfried. "Wait, did you say you were a clockmaker?" Without waiting for a reply he digs around in his bookbag. "Any chance you can take a look at this for me? I know its not a clock but it should be close enough..."

After a minute of rummaging he pulls out a strange device made up of gears and spindles. "I got this a while back but haven't a clue what it does. The thing's definitely magitech though, and its clockwork to boot so I just had to buy it. Anyway, any chance you can tell me what it is or if its broken?"
Title: Re: Islands of Infinity

Seigfried takes the device and examines it, turning it over several times in his hands.  He turns a couple of the gears with his fingers, arches an eyebrow, and absent-mindedly flicks his right ear as he fiddles with the device.
"Fascinating little device there... whatever it is it certainly is broken, though I'd have to take a closer look at it to find out exactly what's wrong.  I'm no magesmith, but how about we go by my shop and I see what I can do?"

"Very well, my shop's right this way."

Seigfried leads the way to his shop, where he sets the contraption down on a desk with various tools, a stand holding several sizes of magnifying glass, and a bright hooded lamp.  He sets down his briefcase just behind the counter, picks up his mail and thumbs through it, quickly scanning for anything of interest.  As he does so he says,
"There are some chairs over here, make yourself comfortable, there's a few books on that shelf if you want something to read, or of course you can watch."

Curiosity getting the better of him, Kyan waits until the pair are no longer paying attention to him, and tries to follow them without raising suspicion, taking the form of a small black cat.

I've no intention of going inside, but he's liable to try to peek in through any windows and listen through doors, given the chance.

Drauger glances back to the piece of paper.

He swishes his tail in agitation, both at the sudden interruption and the prospect of having to sweep the floor again.

Drauger nods and shifts from dirt to rock before walking up to Seigfried.
"I was told you were a pretty good clockmaker, and I've been looking around for someone to make one for me. I can't stick around on an island forever, and without a way of tracking time I sometimes spend too much. Don't need anything fancy, a regular pocket watch'd do just fine. Seigfried rubs his chin thoughtfully,
"A traveler eh?  I think I've got something."
He pulls open a drawer behind the counter containing several rather plain pocket watches, and sets a few on top of the counter.
"If you want my advice you'd probably want this one with what's known as a 'hunter case'", he indicates a simple brass watch with a hinged lid, "the hinged lid on the case here folds down over the watch's face, and will protect it from scratches, nicks, or *ahem* dirt.  Now, this one here will cost you about 30 coppers, for another ten I could etch your name on the back with that machine behind me", he points back briefly to indicate said machine, "of course if you want a custom piece that would cost quite a bit more, and you'd have to wait a few days."

"I'll come back if I ever need repairs or the like."

Seigfried turns to look at the contraption, and sees the movement himself,
"Now what  have we here..."
He sits down at the workbench and peers through the magnifying glass set at the device, studying it for clues about its origin and function.
"Well, blast, it looks like this piece is just loose.  Damned if I know what it's supposed to do, though."

((Alright, I'm basically trying to have my character get a good enough look at the device that he can reasonably come to the conclusion that it's beyond his skill level, since the only examination he's given it prior to this was in a dark street.  I'll wait for you and Jonas to sort this out then try to retcon appropriately.))

OOC: Okay Jonas, you're taking too long to respond with what I need to know about what you have in mind for this item. I sent you a PM a few days back which should have been plenty of time for you to send one back even if we couldn't catch each other in the chatroom much. As such I'm going to have to start making rulings about this watch thing. First one being that it starts as broken. This means that it really couldn't start turning when Fen was nearby.

DV, you have a few ideas on how to fix it but without knowing what it's supposed to do you're not sure how to properly put it back together or what parts it may be missing. You may want to consider asking an expert in magitech (this probably means a magesmith) whenever you manage to find one. There isn't one on the island that you know of.

Jonas, you can still get back to me with something if you do so before progress on the watch becomes significant.

=ack, sorry! Anyway, I don't have any actual idea of what the watch-thing is supposed to be. When I said one of the gears started 'turning' I was picturing it doing so very slowly and sort of about to fall off its piston/whatever the term is. I just figured it would be a good hook to get everyone moving together and might be motivation to leave the island. As for what it is...I'm thinking a sort of aura-compass but it's completely optional if you want it to be something else. Currently I guess it would be a literal plot device ^^ =

Drauger leans in to inspect the device.
"Strange, I haven't seen anything much like this before. Must be custom make, whatever it is. As for anything magnetic, haven't got anything.

retcon powers activate.. >_>

OOC: Okay Jonas, if you don't have a specific thing in mind just yet then I'm going to requisition this watch for plot purposes. I will accept that one gear was loose and started to wobble from a jostle or something. Fen, Jonas asked if you had anything MAGNETIC, not MAGITECH. Close, but not quite what you're looking for. ^.^ Anyway, my previous post still applies to this watch then.

Setting his blood ale down, William pulls out a small collection of stones, to which he looks over and shines. Among them are many of the darker gemstones, such as obsidian, Tiger's Eye, and Amethyst. Taking out a second small bag, he dumps out some odd rocks, and then a small tube. Placing a rock inside it, he adds some fine sand and begins to shake it.

A minute or so passes and William empties the tube to reveal the stones in a slightly less rough appearance. He smiles and looks over them agian.

Sennel loses interest in the large golem and peeks over Siefried's shoulder as he examines the strange clockwork. "So, any idea how to fix it? Or at least figure out what it is?"

Seigfried tilts his right ear down and scratches his head, then says,
"I'm afraid not, but I may know someone who does, let me check my logs."
He walks over to a small bookshelf and pulls out a leather-bound volume which has surprisingly low levels of dust.  He opens it up and thumbs through several pages before settling on an old entry.

Delivery to Dr. Galilei; custom stopwatch, no oscillator, for research purposes...

"Here it is, he's a magesmith who lives on another island, he wanted a high-speed stopwatch for some reason, he used some kind of magic to replace the oscillator that allowed it to record hundredths of a second.  If anyone would be able to help us with this, I bet he would."

OOC: Hmmm... I'm having to do less GMing than I thought I would. You even managed to come up with your own own magesmith ^.^ If I want any action in this RP I may have to actually make a character myself ^.^;

Anyway, your suggestion is feasible and this Galilei fellow may just know something about your mysterious watch. Like most magesmiths, he prefers a little bit of isolation to work in peace. He still lives in the same empire you are in, but it's a little more towards the edge of the empire. The island doesn't actually have an official name, but people refer to it as The Tower of Yasalal due to its tall cylyndrical and hollowed shape which has historically served as a guard point for Yasalal. (Legends claim the original name was Yasalaleskeesaloosvaralaeee but historians refute this. It should be noted that many of them blush as they do so.)

In modern times, the tower is no longer stocked for defense as Yasalal has been at peace with their neighbors for quite some time. It is now home to several various individuals who live in different parts of the tower. Kind of like a monastery crossed with a university where learned individuals tend to live and periodically meet up to discuss and debate theory. Since the somewhat famous (in local parts) explosion which blew out part of the tower wall, debates are usually held away from the island itself. Such debates include items such as: how to create artificial gravity, biology theory, whether or not to fix the wall (or see if the pieces will eventually somehow fix themselves), just who actually invented lite lanterns, and whether or not the island should be given an official name.

If you want to get to this island you'll need to find some way to travel there as it's a bit further than you can go quickly enough to island jump.

Sennel's tail wags and his light pulses excitedly. "Airtrip it is then? Docks or private ship?"

Putting the stones away, William sighs. He can see that there is no more work for him in this town, so travel to another Island would probably be good. Walking out of the in he looks up at the Dark Motes as he tries to discern where the shadows are moving.

The winds are blowing towards the inside of the island you're on, but the clouds seem to be getting smaller. Anyone with experience and an eye for weather can tell they're moving away from the island but where to is impossible to say just yet. It also seems to be dispersing, but while 'dawn' has broken, there doesn't seem to be any lite clouds nearby just yet.

Looking around however you can see shadows gathering on the horizon.

"MMMmmph...blast it" William says as he starts to put a hand to his face to shield a little. Seeing the shadows, he tries his best to discern direction, and heads off to the travel office to setup a ride to the next island in that direction.

Seigfried chuckles and says,
"While I did just finish a job for one of my more lucrative clients, I think we would be better off taking one of the passenger ships.  I say we head down to the docks and check their schedule, just give me a few minutes to close up shop."

With that he closes the logbook and returns it to its place, and begins checking the locks on cabinets containing merchandise.

Sennel nods and waits while Siegfried cleans up. His witchlight circles around his upper body in boredom as he waits but his ears perk up when it appears that the time to leave is approaching.

(OOC: Sorry for dissapearing)

With a little work and negotiation, William is able to secure a ride in the direction of the next island following the path of darkness. Finding himself a closed off room aboard, he finds a good rafter to hang from and takes a long nap, as the ship begins on its way.

Seigfried finishes locking everything up, slings his gun over his shoulder, and picks up his briefcase.
"Let's get going, shall we?  Right this way."
He shows his visitors to the door, locking it as well after everyone has left.
"I believe the docks are this way, follow me."

((Believe me, I know. I've had this window open for a few days now waiting for me to get enough time between classes and homework to figure out how to get this started again. Part of the problem is I've seen this before, and when the majority of everyone doesn't really know what they want to do in a sandbox type RP, things die on a very frequent basis. Since I don't have an overarching plot, that's what this thread is running into. At this point I'm kind of waiting for you to reach the docks and ask someone about chartering passage to somewhere. I've set up the next checkpoint, I'm just waiting for you guys to get there.

This space quite possibly available for GM related rent.))

((Time to SPEED THINGS UP!))

Upon arriving at the dock with the others, Sennel finds the nearest person who looks like they work there and taps them on the shoulder.

"Hi!" he says, his witchlight giving a friendly chime, "Any chance you can tell me where to book passage?"

OOC: Excellent. Time to get things rolling.

The man turns around revealing by his tag that he is a stock manager. "Well that really depends on where you want to go. I'm not really in charge of that stuff but I can probably give you some advice on who to talk to. Where were you thinking?"

Seigfried steps up beside Sennel and clears his throat quietly, then says,
"Ah, yes we were planning a visit to The Tower of Yasalal to meet an old friend, would you happen to know when a ship might be departing for it?"
Title: Re: Islands of Infinity
Post by: Stormkit on September 24, 2010, 01:19:17 AM
The man looks somewhat startled. "Are you kidding? No one stops there because of all the magesmiths. You never know when a stray project is going to explode. If you're lucky though you may find someone going in that direction who won't mind you getting off when you pass. I think there was a fellow who wanted to ship out that way today. He's around here somewhere, you'll know him by his turban. Not many people around here wears headware that over large... think it's a cultural thing."

If you wander around you can find such a man scurrying around his ship, clearly preparing to leave as soon as he is able.

Seigfried suddenly realizes that Sennel isn't near him anymore.  He looks around quickly trying to figure out where he disappeared to, then sees him talking to the guy with the huge turban.  Seigfried runs over to where they are, then after catching his breath he says,
"Ah, pardon me good fellow, I believe what my friend here meant to say was, you wouldn't happen to be departing for the tower of Yasalal by any chance, would you?"

The somewhat gruff and imposing looking lion looked a bit startled when first confronted by the equally imposing, but not anywhere near so gruff Sennel before catching up with the question. As Seig came over and clarified, an expression crossed over his face. It would be hard to say just what this expression was, but it could be interpreted anywhere from a wince to a look of exasperation to annoyance to a glare. An observant person may notice that all of these above reactions are negative in nature, and in fact it's rather clear he's not terribly happy with the prospect. A moment later this was made even more clear when he stated, "I don't like taking on passengers and while I may be headed in that direction, I do NOT intend to make any stops."
