Signups for DnD are closed. The current roster is as follows:
1. Aleph: Dragonborn Shaman
2. Kampkraft: Human Wizard
3. Stormkit: Catfolk Sorcerer
4. Kenku: Kenku Bard (unable to do chatroom game)
5. Dragyn: Catfolk Paladin (may be out)
6. Tvorsk: Vale Fighter
7. Geary: Raki Rogue
8. Digital Vulpine: Vale Ranger
Unfortunately, I have no idea what difficulties this many people may create. Fortunately, I don't intend to make anyone step out unless absolutely necessary.

Having both played and GMed 4th edition already, I'll answer any questions you have as best as I am able.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
-
Gee I feel like the odd one out :p.

Any tips for keeping track of player/monster stats? Like quick references for combat?
-
The little card I linked for my character early on is really useful for combat. They do need to be updated every level, though.
For monsters, I suggest either copying all the monster card to a single page for easy reference, or at the very least marking the pages.

All righty, I've checked a few things, and it doesn't seem as if using the forums for this will be very effective considering the large number of players. We will have to do this using the chatroom, I think. If everyone could post what times they are available, then I'll be able to see when would be best to start the game.
Please give your times in EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST) to make it easier on me. You can use this website => http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc (http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc) to translate your times. You can select by country/region or by timezone (so my time would be either Canada/Eastern or EST)
-
Central European Time. Six hours later than you.
Almost-always available between 11am-6pm EST. Often can stretch for a hour or two longer.
On Saturdays I usually stay overnight, so up till your 2-3am.
If it's uncomfortable enough for rest of you, then, well... I can pass. {:(
-
I live in the EST zone, so 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and 10:00 AM/Noon to 2:00 AM on weekends
-
I live in PST, so I would be available (on weekdays) from possibly 3:00 PM (at earliest) to 6:00 PM (latest). Weekdays are in flux because of a pesky thing called school and parents working. I typically get home at ~5:45 PM. on Weekends I'm theoretically available from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
-
I'm available pretty much anytime from 3:00 to whenever, EST. Just not on Fridays, and not on Sundays.
I could try to be on earlier if needed.
-
I'm available 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM EST weekdays. Sundays and Saturdays are unpredictable, but typically I'm more available on Saturdays and less on Sundays.
-
Im sorry but Im gonna have to drop. At the current point, I have too much HW, reffing, other stuff to be able to do another chatroom game at the moment. Thanks for the oppertunity although.
-
I can do Monday and Wednesday afternoons. (EST) Not sure if I'll actually be able to though. If this takes too much time I won't be able to keep it up.
-
Well in my case my timezone is in America/Santiago, which means that i have 2 hours of difference with Jonas @w@

Does anyone know any program I can use to quickly create grids to use for maps? Although a lot of this can be done through pure visualization, some way to show positions of players/monsters would still be useful.
-
Here's (http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/gridlined/) an online program that generates PDF files, and here's (http://www.brothersoft.com/grid-generator-168973.html) one that creates grids in photoshop. Also, GIMP comes with a Grid plugin.

Well, depends on what you expect.
Battle Map (http://www.trovetokens.com/battlemap2.html) is kinda simple, but designed exactly for combat stuff. It is made in Flash, tho, and is designed to assist a tabletop game, so you'd have to make screenshots of it and upload them somewhere. If you choose it, I think I can make the process a bit easier - notably, create a "Flash Projector" application, so you won't have to cut the webbrowser panels from the screenshot, and maybe make an easy uploader for you somewhere on my part of Urocyon webspace. Other thing that might be worth pondering is using some screen sharing software, for exaple Ustream or Livestream, to show us the mapper screen instead of posting screenshots.

These two, and most of the other applications below seem to be map designers, so we'd need to either make a player/monster tiles for them, or make a map once and then use Photoshop, Gimp, or any other image editor to draw symbols on top on it.
http://www.yeoldemapmaker.com/ - Flash.
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061121t - Semi-Official WotC one?
But MapTool ( http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=maptool ) is hyper awesome. Even allows you as a GM to set up a server and rest of us to connect to it and see the map live.
It's a little complex to set up initially, but I can help you... and it allows for even such cool things as a fog of war, so you can have a full map laid out and us players not seing it, a bunch of available tile sets, and ability of importing custom images, so we could (if you wish so) use our avatars or other symbols for player tokens.
Again, depends on how much functionality do you want {;)

So crap. I did not think this through properly. By the time this starts midterms will come around for me and if I have 'maybe' enough time now, I certainly won't then. I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to do this ^.^;
-
It's looking less and less like I'll have time for this, either. When it was a forum-thing, at a nice slow pace, I could do fine, but I'm not sure I'll be able to make it at any specific times.
-
Indeed. But let's face the facts... while a forum is quite good for a freeform "storytelling" RP, even these feel glacially slow. A D&D-type RP, with dice, stats and need of frequent question/response exchanges between players and DM, would be quite ridiculous.
...
Sorry to lose you, folks. It would be way better with you on board.
Hopefully you'll find time to jump in later.
-
Well, I'm not "officially" out yet...it's just starting to look like I might end up ducking out after a while. We'll have to see.
-
Heh, I thought this was going to be freeform rp based on the DnD setting. Since this will actually involve stats, dice, and other stuff like that, particularly showing up at a regulated time, there's just no way I'll be able to pull this off. Too much stuff I need to know and do rather than just the creative writing process that I thought this would be. Sorry to drop out like this ^.^;
-
/me looks around.
Hey, Jonas?

Due to university work, I won't be able to get things started just yet. Due dates are March 22nd so this won't start until then. Sorry...
-
Fits me... A new course starts at 15th, and the first week will surely be tiring, because I'm completely out of habit {:)
