Title: Breaking Boundries
Post by: Geary on November 28, 2009, 10:02:01 PM
This is a Choose Your Own Adventure type story. I'll describe the scenario, give a list of responses, and let 3-5 people choose something. The most popular vote wins, unless it's something I'm uncomfortable with writing about, though that'll be difficult to find whilst staying within the sites PG rating. Remember that if you want to vote for somebody who chose 'Other', simply quote them and your vote will be tallied. Shall we begin?

You wake up with a blistering headache. All you can see in front of you are blurs and you can't hear anything, save for strange, inaudible voices in your head. You struggle to your feet and try to focus you vision. What do you see?

A. A medieval inn room, neither of high nor poor quality
B. A room riddled with sports posters and baseball cards
C. A prison cell
D. A medieval, round room with a single window and strange vials sitting on shelves
E. A high-tech laboratory, with you on the test table
F. A cave in which it's impossible to see more than two feet in front of your face
G. Other (Describe it)

G- Other

All you see is a glaring white and blue just beyond the darkness that envelopes you. You are small, inside a tunnel of sorts leading out into wherever that lies beyond. You smell cold fresh air mixed with the smell of freshly painted metal and feel a strong current of air at your front.

You are a feral animal, or once was something else. You live in this tunnel on a flying metal city of some sort. There aren't many people here aside from those working on this place. The platform is painted the purest of white and stands above the clouds. The bright uninterrupted sunlight makes the city glow in reflected light. It is dangerous to emerge from the dark abyss quickly as the brightness may blind you.

You begin making your way out of the tunnel, the light forcing you to close your eyes for a few moments. When you open them, you gaze upon a freshly painted metal platform, virtually devoid of anything other than working staff. One of them, a burly tan man who couldn't keep his shirt on, picks you up by the skin of your neck. "Well well, what do we have here?" The man asks, unaware of your sentience. He begins wagging a finger in front of your muzzle. What do you say?

A. "Yip!"
B. "Mew!"
C. "Arf!"
D. "Let me go!"
E. "H-help!""
F. "Unhand me you brutish simpleton!"
G. Say nothing and shrink away from the man
H. Say nothing and squirm
I. Say nothing and bite the man's hand
J. Other

You become a bit scared of this large figure holding you by the neck, and your survival instinct kicks in. You reach forward with your muzzle and bit the man's finger with all your might. "Ow! He nipped my finger! I think it might be bleeding..." The man baps you lightly on the nose. "No! Bad thing! No nipping people's fingers!" The man begins taking you to a tent-like structure. What do you do?

A. Say something (from previous action, specify which)
B. Squirm
C. Attempt to bite the arm holding you
D. Shrink in fear of what he may do to you
E. Whimper
F. Growl
G. Hiss
H. Other

Feeling impending doom, you begin squirming with all your might. Sadly, due to your small stature, this fails miserably and doesn't even get attention from the man holding you. The man carries you into a square, tent-like structure, where an AC in cranked to max setting and three other burly men are sitting down and drinking water. "Hey guys, look what I found." The man carrying you says. The other three turn towards you, and one of them lets out an "Awww" before all four begin laughing. "So what should we do with it?" One asks. Another answers. "Throw it in the storage unit, we'll need to tell the boss about this." The man carrying you move towards a rectangular box, while another open. "In ya go." The man holding you tosses you towards the opening. What do you do?

A. Try and make the landing as soft as possible
B. "Yip!"
C. "Arf!"
D. "Mrow!"
E. "Squeak!"
F.  Rebound off the box and ____
G. Attempt to miss the box, then ____
H. Other

F. Rebound off the box and say "Not today, I'm afraid! I must be off now!" then rush out of the tent.

As the man throws you, you attempt to change your trajectory and dodge the box. Your mind told you that you would miss the box, then flee from the situation unharmed. In reality, you simply hit the box harder than you would have, and collapsed in a pile of fur who you hissed feline obscenities at the men. "What'dya know? It's a cat." "Thought those little buggers went extinct ages ago." "Boss'll reward us nicely, hehehe." One of the men slammed the box's door shut.

It was several hours later, not that you could tell, but it felt like several hours, that the box opened again. A white, furred hand picked you up, and a queer figure examined you top to bottom. "Hm... yes. This is a cat all right. I thought we killed these vermin of ages ago. No matter, his pelt will sell-"

"Um... Boss..." One of the humans said, interrupting what could now be made out as an anthropomorphic red fox.

"Oh, what is you you blasted naked ape!?" The fox yelled at the man.

The man hesitated to speak. "W-well... it's... a girl."

The fox begins examining you more closely. "Yes... it is a female... which means her pelt can be sold for more!" The fox laughs, the tosses you back to one of the humans. The fox leaves the tent, and the man holding you whispers into your ear.

"Can you speak?"

What do you say?

A. "..."
B. "H- h- hello?"
C. "I- I think so..."
D. "Yes, I can speak."
E. "Of course I can speak! But you never gave me to opportunity to do so! No release me!"
F. "Mew?"

((Eep! Sorry, but I already settled on Kai's  ]:())

"H- h- hello?" You manage to get out, trembling in the man's grasp. It just now occurred to you that you didn't know who you were, or even what you are for that matter. "E- excuse me, but... what was that man talking about? What did he mean about selling my pelt?"

The man sighed and look around, making sure that nothing was within earshot. He whispered to you. "That doesn't matter. I'm going to get you out of here. That man? He's a Red, the Slave Masters of the foxes. I'm fed up with this non-stop work, as are the rest of the humans. I'm going to take you to a place where you'll be safe... for a while at least." The man motions for you to jump into a large, open pouch on his side. What do you do?

A. Jump in
B. Ask question (Specify)
C. Jump out of his hands and flee
D. Jump back into the box
E. Other

You inquire as to what's going on. "What is all of this? What do you mean 'Slave Masters'?" The man looks at the ground solemnly.

"The vulpine... we gave them sentience, and this is how they repay us. All we wanted was a species as intelligent as we were, but the foxes became arrogant. They believed that they were the one true rulers of the Earth. Humans, by then, had just finished giving felines sentience, but the vulpine wiped out almost all of them, and the survivors hid away, losing their anthropomorphic form in hopes of survival. There is a resistance group, one made to overthrow the vulpine, and we need all the help we can get. I can take you to them, but I'll require your trust to do so."

"...I trust you." You jump into the pouch, and the man zips you up.

End of Chapter One

Dear Geary,
As a representative of the Vulpine Union of Legitimacy and Propaganda, I must regrettably ask you to cease and desist your story. Foxes are not and arrogant nor evil. Foxes are soft loving creatures that sneak into being petted and scritched. We are very timid creatures and ruling the world is not part of our plans. (Although is commonly known that we seek to own large portions of your cookie cake and pie factories) If you insist to continue this story, then I must insist that your readers know that foxes would rather keep the cats for giggles we get from the numerous pranks pulled on them, then skin them for a lower quality fur that foxes wear from birth.
Regrettably it is more likely that the cats themselves would pull such drastic measures to better there vulpine breathern. Don't let them fool you, beneath their lethargic and fluffy manor is a monster that plots your every demise. Cats are more likely to skin you alive for pleasure then a fox would bite you for a cookie. (although we would still seek to steal that cookie from you) Cats are dangerous creatures at best, and at worst they can brainwash the more simple minded of humoons into a blind love of them. Dwarfs a species that numbered into the millions has been brought to near extinction because of this brain washing ability. (As seen here (http://dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Catsplosion))
I must point out to the readers that this article is most likely a propaganda story itself, written by a cat lover. The College of Alteration and Transformation, or CAT, sends out its master level graduates to convince the populace at large the gentle and harmless nature of cats. We foxes know better, and hopefully you know better now too. Help us convince the world that foxes aren't all that bad.

Knowing is half the battle,

You awaken to the sound of a zipper opening and light flooding onto your eyes. A hand reaches into the pouch and pulls you out. "Yes... this is one of them all right... Thank goodness we got to her before the vulpine did." You struggle to open your eyes, and a blurred figure stands before you, one of it's arms reaching out and holding you. "Men! I want you to scout the area, make sure nobody saw us." The man pulls you close and cradles you with both arms. "Are you okay? Did they hurt you?"

Your eyes begin to focus. "No... I'm fine..." You answer, seeing a rather pale man with white hair, though he was still rather lean from what you could tell.

The man smiled at you. "Don't worry, we'll keep you safe. You won't have to worry about those wretches ever hurting you... Now, let's get you back to  base, shall we? Now tell me, what's your name?" The man asks as he begins making his way down an invisible trail.

What is your name?

"What do you mean by, uh, making us sentient?" You blurt out, confused about what the man said earlier.

"A group of scientists had the idea to modify animal brains to math their own. Nobody knows why they picked foxes, some say it's because of their natural abilities, others say they picked a card out of a hat. Either way, they somehow succeeded in their plan, and then began trying to make them more human in shape. They succeeded again, but as a result the survivors of the initial experiments told the other vulpine of the pain they went through, and ever sense they have harbored a deep, invisible hatred of us. When they caught wind that the scientists were doing these experiments again, only this time on felines, they found justification in declaring all out war."

You observe your surroundings. "Where am I?" You say, trying to put the numerous pieces of this puzzle together.

"We are currently in Yellowstone, an old conservatory which was abandoned after the vulpine took over, them claiming we were 'oppressing' these animals. The vulpine have also tabooed entering the area, so they won't be able to reach you."

"Well, um... Thank you... but... what do you want from me?"

"Nothing you won't willingly provide. For the first few months here, you'll be with your kin, learning about your body and the genetic- erm, never mind. All you have to worry about if getting some rest and staying alive." The man smiles at you and begins making his way down a trail.

What do you do?
